Headless Commerce Definition
Headless commerce is an architecture where the frontend (what customers see) is decoupled from the backend (where products, prices, and orders are managed). The two layers communicate via API, giving teams full freedom to build any customer experience without being constrained by the commerce platform's built-in templates.
Why do companies adopt it?
Traditional ecommerce platforms bundle the storefront and the backend together. This makes customization slow and limits where and how products can be presented. Headless removes that constraint — the same backend can power a webshop, a mobile app, a kiosk, a voice assistant, or any other touchpoint simultaneously.
Where does a PIM system fit in?
A PIM system is a natural companion to headless commerce. It acts as the central source of clean, structured product content that the frontend layers pull from via API. AtroPIM is built API-first, making it straightforward to integrate with headless frontends and deliver consistent product data to any channel or touchpoint.
